Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
Custom planned itineraries cost $50 per travel day planned, in full- or half-day increments, with a 3-day minimum.
Are Brandie and John real people?
Yes, we are definitely real people, and we love to travel. Both of us enjoy demanding, full-time careers. We created Travel Like Brandie to share our love of travel (and John’s passion for travel planning) with others. Find out more about us here: About Us
What am I paying for?
You are paying for a detailed, planned itinerary for a specific number of days. The travel planning fee pays for Travel Like Brandie’s time and expertise in researching and curating a custom travel itinerary that meets your wants and needs. Additional days, changes in travel dates, and any changes to the final, approved itinerary require additional planning time. Therefore, we assess additional planning fees for major changes. We will make minor changes at our sole discretion.
What’s Included?
We consult with you, research the destination, suggest and reserve lodging, restaurants, excursions, and transportation. You approve all selections. Finally, we create and deliver the executable travel itinerary in an easy-to-use app and via PDF.
How do you customize it for me?
During our initial consultation, we learn about you and your travel party, as well as what inspires and excites you about your destination.
Once you have signed up to Travel Like Brandie, you will fill out a more detailed travel-style questionnaire to help us understand your likes, must-haves, must-not-haves, etc.
After that, we provide you with options, along with insight into what makes each one different and how they meet the requirements you have shared with us. You sign off on any final selections from these options. This process is undertaken for each of our travelers and results in a trip that is uniquely yours.
What if an item on my itinerary gets canceled?
If you have traveled much, then you already know that disruption is a part of the experience. Some of the best stories come from unexpected circumstances while traveling. For example, the time Santa Claus found 10-year-old John while he was stranded with his family in a hotel in Colorado Springs instead of Keystone on Christmas Eve because of a massive blizzard.
We equip you with the information you need to deal with these disruptions: contact information for hotels, tour operators, museums, etc. In addition, we supply confirmation numbers, cancellation policies, and links to appropriate websites. Finally, we book refundable rates whenever possible in case of disruption. As a result, you can roll with the punches when a disruption occurs. It becomes a funny travel story instead of “why my trip failed.” Like the time that the food tour guide didn’t show up in Nice – Brandie and John made up their own food tour and had a blast!
When a cancellation happens, we will make sure that you are notified as soon as possible (in most cases the vendor will let you know directly). You will receive a refund from that vendor for any payments already made. At your request, we will attempt to make other arrangements, but we will not always be able to. Travel Like Brandie is not responsible for any cancellations by hotels, airlines, tour companies, etc. When we find and book these items for you, we are relying on them to deliver just like you are. We do not run their companies, nor do we have any influence over weather, mechanical failures, strikes, traffic, changes in government regulations, or acts of god. See our terms and conditions for more detail..
We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance.
Why don’t you book flights?
A flight disruption can have the most negative impact on your trip. However, your absolute best odds of speedy resolution is to have booked directly with the airline. We hear too many stories of people trying to resolve canceled or severely delayed flights and being told that they should have booked directly with the airline. Brandie and John book 100% of their flights directly with the airlines and recommend that you do, as well.
We are happy to provide flight advice during the consultation and detailed flight itinerary support as an optional add-on (see pricing).
We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance.
